Getting Your Blog on Kindle for the New Year

As we welcome in 2011, I would like to wish all of our Nutmeg Lawyer readers a happy and prosperous New Year.  I had hoped to start off this year with a review of the Kindle or the i Pad I received for Christmas. Unfortunately, those gifts never materialized.  I had hoped I would find my i Pad hiding behind my desk in the same manner that Ralphie found his Red Rider BB gun in "A Christmas Story."  Instead I got the equivalent of the pink bunny suit he got from his Aunt Clara. I received several ties this Christmas and some novelty socks with the scales of justice on them. Yes, I get it.  I'm a lawyer.  It doesn't mean every gift has to be a tie, a John Grisham novel or an "executive paperweight."  My office is not that drafty.  I don't need to weigh down my papers.  But I digress....

One of the hottest gifts this year was the Kindle. With the ability to store thousands of books including over 4500 legal titles, the Kindle has become a favorite for the lawyer set.  You can peruse your favorite magazines, newspapers and blogs including yours truly. Since our own inclusion, several fellow bloggers have emailed me asking how I managed to get the Nutmeg Lawyer on Kindle.  Was there a strict review process?  Did it require negotiation? Do I have an agent?  No need to bend my arm any further.

Truth be told, it is not a groundbreaking secret.  Many have known this for quite some time.  Kindle publishing for blogs allows any blogger to sign up.  You can get your own blog published in just three steps.  Just follow the instructions to at Kindle Publishing for Blogs.  They will give you instructions on how to upload your blog's screenshot and you will be on your way to retirement.  Your blog will pop up in an Amazon.com search.  See our listing here.  It's as simple as that.

OK, maybe it won't quite fund your retirement.  Most blogs seem to list on Amazon at $1.99 a month for a subscription.  You, as the author (to paraphrase Don Fanucii in the Godfather) get to wet your beak.  Your take is about 30%  Get 100 subscribers and you'll get around thirty bucks a month. Of course, to be successful you need to post regularly and have something interesting to say.   It can take about 72 hours to get approved on Kindle so be patient.  In my own experience, they were much quicker.
