"The Torch Is Not Extinguished"

I came across this wonderful poem by one of our readers. Author Eilish Thompson dedicated this poem to Eunice Kennedy Shriver. The sister of president John F Kennedy, Mrs. Shriver was best known for her work with the Special Olympics. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Shriver at a charity event several years ago. I found her to be warm and friendly. Her commitment to public service was only outmatched by her grace and dignity. I encourage you to visit http://www.eunicekennedyshriver.org/ to learn more about this exceptional lady.
"The Torch Is Not Extinguished"
The torch is not extinguished even though human life is frail. The Medal of Honor she entrusted with us has a message that will never fail.
The love we saw is not diminished though the winds have taken its sail. I am so proud to have been so blessed, and lucky enough to tell you this tale.
The gold cannot be destroyed even by our raging, coldhearted storms. We will continue to fight the tough battles that ignorant, ruthless reality forms…
But we will fight and fight with courage to gain acceptance of the people we are and we live for the people like Eunice who truly love us for who we are!
-Eilish Thompson
