Update on Connecticut's Effort to Raid the Client Security Fund:
A bill signed by Gov. Jodi Rell reverses her proposal that Connecticut dip into the $2million dollar Client Security fund to help balance the state budget. For over a decade, the fund has reimbursed clients taken advantage of by unscrupulous lawyers. As reported earlier by the Nutmeg Lawyer, Rell and some of the state's legislators wanted to transfer $2 million dollars into a "deficit mitigation bill." On March 30th, a posse of well known CT lawyers road to the rescue and did what lawyers do best; they filed a lawsuit. This should settle the question of whether or not the fund is tax revenue.
